Savoring the Last Jewels of Summer

I am sorry to see summer go, this is true. School has started. The rush of weekday mornings has begun and so the last long summer weekend felt like a gift. Wait is it Tuesday already??? I'm praying this year will be filled with small blessings and good health for my family and for you and your loved ones too.

a cooling breeze hitches a ride on the tail of soft morning light
blossoming slightly with the next breath of wind
a day of quietude
jumbled dishes... a satisfied grin
toes meet beneath the dinner table...
summer freedom soon to be concealed snugly in warm woolen socks
evening approaches as gently as the morning's breeze...
a sweet shabbat at home with my family...peaceful and easy

sunday did not have the same quiet feeling...
it was relaxed but the energy was more charged

meandering through the orchard with intention...
(is that still meandering?)
greeted by an endless expanse of sky above...
searching for something sweet
not apples...(though they'd be perfect for Rosh Hashanah)

our quest was for the last of summer's tiny jewels
sticky stained fingers
two teenage girls eager to bake combined with
sugar, flour, cornstarch, oatmeal, butter

voila'...a riot of color and flavor (over ice cream)...
savoring the last jewels of summer

an abundance of gratitude for summer's simple pleasures and dear, dear friends
(thank you Muncie and Barbara)

I'll be away from blogging from Wednesday afternoon through next Monday. We are traveling again, this time to be with our Philadelphia relatives for Rosh Hashanah.
to my Jewish friends: L'Shanah Tova
to everyone gentle steps
